A couple of months ago, I posted a blog about Latinitas, a non-profit organization for which I shoot as a volunteer. The group aims to increase education and participation of young Latinas in fields of communication and media. In May, they held a fashion show to showcase the many clothing styles available for girls of all ages — from tweens and teens to college students and professionals.
The show was hosted by KDBC News anchor Adrienne Alvarez and 104.3 Hit FM radio host Joey C. As a special guest, El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar spoke to the audience about how young Latinas can succeed in their educations and careers through determination and hard work.
Also participating in the show were several young women who serve as fashionable role models for the Latinitas participants. Strutting down the runaway were KINT anchor Karla Mariscal (along with her limelight-loving little girl), KFOX reporter Kandolite Flores, Time Warner Cable public relations specialist Kelcey Wells, Miss El Paso Texas Angelica Calderon and Miss Texas Intercontinental Elizabeth Reeves.
The show was well-produced with participation from various El Paso shops like SOY Apparel and Dillard’s and a lively dance performance by El Paso Dance Academy. It was a lot of fun to shoot, and I look forward to writing more blog entries about future Latinitas events.
