Project 365.19 | El Paso Photographer

On a Saturday morning walk through the neighborhood, I turned a corner and saw this classic automobile and several others cruising the streets. I had a little fun editing the photo to make it seem as vintage as the car.

Ring of Fire | El Paso Photographer

© Rene Leon Photography 2012 - Annular Solar Eclipse

Yesterday’s annular solar eclipse was really a sight to see, kinda. As we sat in our living room ready to watch AMC’s The Killing and Mad Men, I noticed the light playing on our wall. Normally, the sun shines through our blinds as a line of discs on the wall. But yesterday’s light appeared as a series of interlocking rings. It was the same effect as when we poked a pinhole in a box to view the eclipse as schoolchildren.

Our neighborhood of Sunset Heights is aptly named for its year-round beautiful views of the the sunsets. I grabbed my gear and stepped onto my balcony to catch the moon blocking the sun just as it dipped into the horizon. Since I couldn’t look directly at the sun through the viewfinder, I stopped the aperture all the way down, pointed in the general direction of the blazing fireball and hoped for the best. The photo above was one of the captures. Pretty cool stuff.
